Releasing 1.0

Inspired by the "Thumbscreening" design ideals set out by the folks at Gx5, I decided that I wanted a Pocket Tunes skin for my Treo 650 that fit my hand a little better. I don't need to know the bit rate of the song I'm playing or need to change the crossfade setting the whole time I'm listening to music. I prefer a less cluttered interface than most of the skins available, thus the name, JustPlay.

I feel like the layout of controls on the screen is very confortable and requires very little movement of the thumb for the primary controls (play/pause, fwd, rev, stop). Obviously, this only works when holding the device in your right hand (anyone need a lefty version?). This was built only for the 320x320 screen resolution (at least for now) and uses Pocket Tunes 2 functionality.

In terms of using the skin:

  • The star button changes the mode of the slider from 1) Song Position to 2) Volume to 3) Balance and back again. The slider reverts to Song Position after a few seconds of disuse.
  • Tapping the title bar will bring up the song info popup.
  • Tapping the Artist/Album bar will toggle between these two.
  • Tapping the song position (by the slider) will toggle between elapsed time and time remaining.
  • Holding down the forward and reverse buttons will scan though the track.

This is the first release of the first skin that I have created for any software, so I'd love feedback from anyone who uses it. Please feel free to use and redistribute the skin. I'm going to post the source and the images for creating it a little later. Nothing revolutionary in it, but I had to figure a few things out. In the mean time, you are free to use and redistribute the skin, but not to sell it or copywrite it yourself.

Here's the download.
